Q: So tell me about yourself! (any personal info you feel comfortable sharing, fun facts, hobbies, childhood etc.)A: I’m a 26 year old business owner (Body by Heidi) and personal trainer from Ohio.
Q: How did you first discover the world of health/fitness? And is there a defining moment that comes to mind where you really fell in love with this lifestyle, or was it more of a gradual transition?A: I was always active as a young adult but I wouldn't say that I was always "healthy." I worked out when I felt like, ate what I wanted and never really made any conscious effort to change my body even though I had thought about it often. It wasn't until my college career (and realizing I wasn't meant to be a Psychology major) that I found my niche after joining the Exercise Science department at Kent State University. After changing my major, I knew almost instantly that I had made the right choice. I was surrounded by people who shared my interests of being active, healthy and wanting to learn everything there was to know about how our bodies moved and operated. I was sold and that's when everything shifted for me and I began to put my body and health at the forefront of my focus. I graduated from Kent State University in 2011 with my Bachelor’s degree and jumped right into the world of wellness. A defining moment for me would probably have been about a year into working as a fitness professional, I decided it was time to push my own limits and challenge myself. I began my journey towards taking the stage as an NPC bikini competitor. I went through my first prep starting in January 2013 and stepped on stage for the first time April 6, 2013. I placed 2nd in my class at my very first show and became qualified to compete at a National level. From there, the fire was lit. For the first 3 years of my career, I worked in the corporate wellness field as a full-time Fitness Specialist and Personal Trainer. Just recently, in 2015, I made the choice to walk away from the corporate job market to pursue the growth of Body by Heidi.
Q: What inspired you to start your Instagram account?A: Initially, I started my Instagram account for reasons just like anyone else; to post pictures and share pieces of my life. I shared (and still do) both personal fitness related posts like workouts and what I was up to. Once I started prep for competition, a lot of what I was up to was prep related, so my fitness posts were more frequent because both my job and hobby revolved around training and the gym.
Q: What is the one piece of advice you'd like to share with your followers?A: My advice would be to not compare yourself to others and don't look at others for your goal body. Social media makes this extremely difficult, I’m guilty of it as well. But comparison is the thief of joy. And it generally doesn't yield anything positive.. Too often people don't realize that those they idolize have likely worked for YEARS to look the way they do now. Don't aim to be anyone else, aim to be your best YOU.
Q: If you could have an endless supply of any ENLIGHTENED product, which one would you choose?A: The ice cream bars/sandwiches for sure! I have a terrible sweet tooth and I am a HUGE ice cream lover, so they’re a LIFESAVER, especially in prep.
